Yeah, the first season apartment looked like it was taken right from the movie. Someone is sending me that book- you'd think I would have read it sooner!

I watched "The Exorcists" ep the other night- I had forgotten about the music cut in that. What a shame, when you're expecting Victor Buono to play Peg O' My Heart on he organ, and instead you hear this dopey generic nonsense they dubbed in- what a terrible thing to do to such a great show!!!
I didn't like "Edith writes a song" because they painted such a phony image of burglars just for the sake of norman's agenda. Like I'm sure people who break into houses to rob you are all these endearing generous Fellows with wonderful senses of humor. Right. I don't like when I can smell someone's agenda in any art form, I feel them manipulating me, or rather trying to. It offends me. So does lying, and that episode lies.
Exactly- Lear's full-blown liberalism, showing just what a skewed perspective such people have. That is the one episode from the first five seasons that I will skip- I can't bear it.

If crooks were anything like that, it'd be a pleasure to be robbed!

As for those first eps of season 1 though- while it is true that Edith was vacant and shallow (I think she was trying to replicate the British version of Edith from Till Death Us Do Part) I still enjoy those episodes immensely. I always say that AITF is the one show that was great from day one- a very rare characteristic. I find the first season Odd Couple episodes to be much worse (Watchable though....)

I think the Honeymooners and AITF are probably about the only shows I can think of that were really great from the very first ep- (and The Honeymooners may beat AITF in that sense, as all the characters were in stride in the first ep- but then again, they had practise from the Jackie Gleason Show skits)

LOL, that's true! Regarding Edith's 50th birthday, it was understandably uncomfortable to watch. But I think if it helped people in some way it's worth it.

Second season: just a few favorites, Edith's Accident, Mike Meets Archie, Edith Writes a Song,The Elevator Story.

Another one that stands out, but I don't have the name handy, it's when Archie buys aluminum siding from a con man. I get a kick out of it because the story resonates, it still happens nowadays.

Damn shame, isn't it? The one that is really blatant and bothers me the most (because it was so integral to the ep, and comprised a major joke) was the removal of Cocktails For Two in "Strike Up The Band...Or Else".

I turned a friend onto the Odd Couple, and she has never even seen that scene- wouldn't know it existed if I hadn't have told her.

Also we've been circling through the episodes again because our 11 yr. old started watching with us and he insists on watching this past week. He enjoys it and finds it funny! It's important for us because he's delayed and anything that sparks an interest so he continues making improvements, no matter how small, is a good thing.

So for now I'll just pick some of my favorites from season 1 that's Iv'e seen recently again.

Lionel Moves into the Neighborhood, Edith has Jury Duty, Archie Gives Blood, yes and Mike's Hippie Friends visit!

A few all-time favorites: Mikes Hippie Friends; Judging Books By Covers (Rogerbelle!); Ediths Accident; and, if I really, really had to pick one favorite: Everybody Tells The Truth (Where they all give their own versions of what the refrigerator repairman and his helper were like!)

Most of my least-favorite eps are in season 6- with the exception of Grandpa Blues, which is a gem!

My TV is not connected to the outside world at all- no antenna; no cable; No satelite. Like Dunsel, in addition to AITF, I also have the Odd Couple and The Honeymooners- and I even have The Twilight Zone- I perpetually relive those nights from the 1970's of watching those great old shows on WPIX! Throw in my Taxi, Seinfeld and Simpsons collections....and I am in paradise! If it weren't for DVDs, I wouldn't even bother having a TV!

I could never live without cable because it's the only way to watch sports. Precious few sporting events are on broadcast television these days. But when it comes to classic shows like this one, I definitely just buy them. I have the complete runs of mash, Mary Tyler Moore, Barney Miller (those that have been released), star trek TOS, Quincy, the odd couple, the honeymooners, and of course, Archie.
It's worth buying the dvds, because at least here on the East Coast, the only station that shows it is TV Land, and they cut everything to ribbons to shove in as many commercials as possible. I find the channel unwatchable for this reason.
I think so too. I don't have cable, believe it or not, I never liked cable. I don't watch tv much regardless as a result of the type of programs that are on. Cutting everything makes it even worse! The dvds are definately worth it, we have many classics on dvd, AITF certainly is one of them!
